          How it Started

Hi! My name is Priyanka Thirumurti. I created The Musical Brain to promote the idea that active music

 

engagement in music therapy can help people who struggle with mental health, specifically anxiety

 

and/or depression or are diagnosed with these  mental health conditions. 

 

After understanding the positive effects of active music engagement, I want to share this with young adults with anxiety and/or depression and hopefully inspire them to think differently about solutions to mental health, understanding all sides and all evidence for or against this idea. As a trained violinist, pianist, and neuroscientist, I believe that music can be very beneficial. I also explore how music shapes the mind. I teach, create, and share the science behind sound - to help people focus, heal and thrive. 

 

My blog presents scientific evidence for all statements regarding music in medicine and is also used as a

 

tool to promote mental fitness (as a term towards positive engagement as opposed to something that

 

needs to be fixed) awareness. The Musical Brain proposes to inspire action to create a community around

 

this idea and provide a platform for unheard voices.
